2011: Opening of the festival
The festival first aired in 2011, beginning in a small independant theater, determined to showcase local talent that was largely unoticed by most cinemas and agencies. This was a small event, featuring less than 15 films but marked the start of a journey of encouraging new talent and gather film enthusiasts.
2014: Awarded Festival of the year
A mere 3 years after the first festival , cinewave was recognised by the film assocation and was nominated for the best film festival of the year for its outstanding new films and impact on aspiring artists at the National arts awards. A remarkable achievement that we are proud to be the owners of.

2015: Aspiring artist award
In 2015 to support small, unrecognised directors that our festival was built upon, we launched the Aspiring artist award, to help upcoming talent recieve the credit and attention required to make it big. Since its release it has become one of our most prestigious events, helping launch the careers of many celebrity film makers today.
2019: Digital innovation and Workshops
In 2019 we expanded beyond just our typical film screenings, introducing a series of workshops and special guest Q&As, giving visitors the opportunity to involve themselves physically in the behind the scenes of the film making industry and also recive expert advice and experiences from special guests, making the festival a place where aspiering talent could learn.

2024: Global expansion
In early 2024 we launched another festival in Berlin Germany, making Cinewave a global phenomenon. This expansion has unlocked the key to the industry of european film, potentially offering a wider range of experiences and events in the festivals in the near future.
